A Night of Fandom: A Cosmic Celebration Previews Upcoming Documentary FROM THE BRIDGE, Celebrates Kerry O’Quinn’s Birthday

Friends, celebrities, and lovers of all things fandom packed the Blind Dragon lounge Wednesday night for A Cosmic Celebration. Guests enjoyed great drinks, great food, and great music DJ’d by Tolula Adeyemi.

The event celebrated the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, the 40th Anniversary of STARLOG, an exclusive preview of FROM THE BRIDGE, and Kerry O’Quinn’s birthday.

Directed by Spencer F. Lee, FROM THE BRIDGE is a feature documentary exploring the fantastic evolution of sci-fi, horror, and superhero fandom from “invisible” to the largest, most desirable and most outrageous audience on the planet earth. 

Guests got a sneak peek at the un-released trailer of the movie. 

The trailer featured never before seen footage of when Kerry O’Quinn introduced Gene Roddenberry and George Lucas on stage for the first time at the first STAR WARS celebration.

Celebrity attendees included: Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), Tom DeSanto (Producer, X-Men), Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist), Douglas Tait (Star Trek), Susie Abromeit (Jessica Jones), Reggie Austin (Agent Carter), Jimmy Jean-Louis (Joy), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool), David Blue (Stargate Universe), Rikki Rockett (Poison), Ellen Green (Pushing Daisies), Beth Grant (Pushing Daisies), Louis Mandylor (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Jason Paige (Singer, Pokémon Theme Song).

The evening celebrated Kerry O’Quinn’s birthday, and his enormous contribution to the sci-fi and horror movie industries today. 

O’Quinn is considered the father of fandom; he published more than 20 newsstand magazines worldwide from NYC before the Internet existed, including STARLOG, FANGORIA, CINEMAGIC, FUTURE LIFE, GORE ZONE and COMICS SCENE. 

He also produced the first STAR WARS celebration. 

Wednesday night many well-known people in the industry personally thanked him for his work including Tom DeSanto, producer and director of X-MEN and TRANSFORMERS, and Nichelle Nichols, STAR TREK.

FROM THE BRIDGE, directed and written by Spencer F. Lee, executive producers George Noe and Spencer F. Lee, produced by Philip Nelson, and hosted on-screen by George Takei, is a feature film documentary that tells the story of how fans worldwide have "come out of geekdom’s closet” in the last 40 years, largely nurtured and encouraged by Kerry O'Quinn. The film features interviews with Stan Lee, Bryan Singer, Gene Simmons, Joe Dante, Nichelle Nichols, Tom DeSanto, Bryan Fuller, Rod Roddenberry, Howard Roffman and many more. Lee's goal with this historic film is to show how dreams can become reality and to encourage the creators of tomorrow to dream BIG.
