Theatrical release set for Oct. 7 Following
a Wide Release in China on Sept. 30

Following Sept. 8's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to acclaimed filmmaker Xiaogang Feng’s (Aftershock, Back to 1942, If You Are the One) "I Am Not Madame Bovary."

The drama stars Fan Bingbing (Skiptrace, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Buddha Mountain), one of China's leading actresses and biggest box office draws, as well as Guo Tao (The Dead End, Guns and Roses) and Da Peng (Jian Bing Man, Impossible).

Well Go USA has committed to a theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada on Oct. 7, which follows the wide release in China on Sept. 30.

Based on Mao Dun Literature Prize winner Liu Zhenyun’s 2012 novel I Did Not Kill My Husband and his adapted screenplay, "I Am Not Madame Bovary" tells the satirical story of Li Xuelian (Fan Bingbing), a village woman accused of being an adulterer.

After a ruling is made against her in her divorce case, she begins an annual ‘journey of petition’ to Beijing in order to prove that her divorce was a sham, and to redeem her reputation.
“'I Am Not Madame Bovary' is a powerful and innovative film starring one of China's most acclaimed actresses under the direction of a true master,” Well Go USA Entertainment’s President & CEO Doris Pfardrescher said. "This is a transformative role for Fan Bingbing and one which we think will translate with North American audiences."
The film is presented by Sparkle Roll Media Corporation, Huayi Brothers Media Corporation, Beijing Skywheel Entertainment, Huayi Brothers Pictures and Zhejiang Dongyang Mayla Media with Qi Jianhong, Wang Zhongjun, Song Ge, Wang Zhonglei and Feng Xiaigang.

The executive associate producer is Du Yang and associate producers are T.K. Yang, Randy Liu, Sunny Sun and Hu Xiaofeng.

The film is produced by Zhang Dajun; executive produced by Wang Zhonglei, Zhou Maofei, Zhao Lei and Jerry Ye; and co-produced by Wang Yang, Joe Tam and Hu Xiaofeng.

The deal was negotiated by Well Go USA Entertainment’s Doris Pfardrescher and Golden Network’s Clarence Tang, who is spearheading Asian sales, along with CAA on behalf of the filmmakers. Wild Bunch is handling Europe.
