"Despicable Me" is a devilishly good fun animated family movie. The growth a villain through acquiring family combines to create an inspiring film that touches the hearts of audiences.
Evil villain Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, gets put to shame when new younger villain Vector, voiced by Jason Segel, steals the pyramids of Egypt, a crime that is deemed the "Crime of the century."
With hopes of redemption, and hoping to gain approval from his mother, Gru devises a plan to out-do every villain in history. He looks to steal the moon.
With the help of Dr. Nefario, voiced by Russel Brand, and his many little yellow minions, voiced by Pierre Coffin, he plans to steal the moon, but Gru has to first steal a shrink ray gun.
Being short on funds Gru heads to the villain's bank for a loan.
While at the bank Gru encounters the annoying villain know as Vector for the first time. The bank denies the loan wanting the shrink ray gun to be in Gru's possession before giving him any more money.
Gru heads off to steal the shrink ray gun only to have it stolen from him by Vector.
Several attempts to steal the gun back end with no such luck. After seeing three young orphans, oldest Margo, voiced by Miranda Cosgrove, middle child Edith, voiced by Dana Gaier, and youngest Agnes, voiced by Elsie Katie Fisher, successfully enter Vector's layer while selling cookies Gru gets a plan.
Carell voices Gru in a hilarious manner with a thick accent and magnificent delivery of comical lines. The voice subtly changes as Gru grows giving way to a feeling of true growth.
The three orphans take the audience's attention and hold it throughout the film. They convey great emotion and combine with Gru to create a fun and exciting experience.
Fisher is the one who lost stood out. Her nonsensical-childish manner combines with Agnes's look to create a cute character that melts audiences hearts.
The nerd voice Segel gives Vector make him more annoying than evil. That annoying nature for Vector is what keeps audiences from rooting for him.
The ending is a happy family movie ending that works magnificently well for this type of film.
I give this animated feature a 5 out of 5 Popcorns. It's an exciting fun time for audiences of all ages. Gru is a likable villain that transforms throughout the film. The three girls are incredibly adorable and captures the hearts of audiences. The struggles throughout the film are logical, the writing is sound, the images on screen are wonderful and the ending fits magnificently well.
