The story of "Epic" falls short of being epic due to its lack of breathe taking scenes.
The story of "Epic" is one that holds amazing plot and incredible characters but falls short on the deliverance of equally incredible visuals.
Mary Katherine, M.K., voiced by Amanda Seifried, goes to her crazy scientist father Professor Bomba's, voiced by Jason Sudeikis , home where she loses touch with her father because he is obsessed with finding a tiny civilization that lives in the near by forest.
M.K. gets shrunken down by the dying Queen Tara, voiced by Beyonce Knowles, who ruled over the tiny kingdom.
The queen entrust M.K. with a tiny pod that glows with magic.
While shrunken down she meets a young rookie leafman Nod, voiced Josh Hutcherson, a veteran leaf warrior Ronin, voiced by Collin Farrell, a slug Mub, voiced by Aziz Ansari, and a snail Grub, voiced by Chris O'Dowd, who help her on her journey as a tiny creature.
The villain Mandrake, voiced by Christopher Waltz, comes to steal the magical pod before it can bloom and reveal the new queen.
Mandrake seeks for the pod to bloom in darkness and his evil prince to spawn.
M.k. Along with the tiny clan of warriors she has acquired set out to prevent Mandrake from achieving his goal.
The storyline is great with much character development and elements that help audiences cheer for the good guys while leaving the villain intriguing yet fowl.
Seifried has a great voice and projects good emotion with every line. She voices a very emotional teenage character's voice and does so fantastically.
The seriousness and veteran sound in Farell's voice helps bring prestige to his character. He brings forth a new elements that allows for confidence yet vulnerability.
The story ends on a good note but leaves an in satisfying feel.
I give this animated film a 3 out of 5 Popcorns. It's a grand story of tiny characters that meet up with regular humans. The use of nature is incredible and all good characters are likable despite some being awkward. The villain is fantastic and is voiced amazingly well by Waltz. The only downside which really affects the story I the lack of incredible scenery. The forest is a grand place and could hold many magical incredibly brilliant places yet "Epic" shows almost none o that.
"Epic" out on DVD/Blu-Ray August 20.
