"R.I.P.D." combines action and comedy to create a great buddy comedy.
The main characters grow throughout the story while having funny scenes and hunting down deados, rogue dead people. It becomes an emotional story that audiences can fully emerge themselves into.
Boston police officer Nick, played by Ryan Reynolds, and partner Hayes, played by Kevin Bacon, split some gold they come across during a bust. As Nick comes to terms with what he is doing and tells Hayes he will turn the good in Hayes takes the opportunity during a raid to do away with Nick.
As Nick dies he is recruited by the "R.I.P.D." by Proctor, played by Mary-Louise Parker, who saw partners him up with Roy, played by Jeff Bridges.
Roy being a lone, rebel "R.I.P.D" officer does not want Nick as a partner but takes him along because Proctor does not give Roy any other choice.
Roy, having been betrayed by his former partner, does not trust or respect Nick.
Nick, trying to outsmart the system, tries to figure out a way to go back to his old life.
Getting sent back to Boston as an "R.I.P.D." officer to hunt down Deados Nick comes to find that in the world of the living he no longer looks like himself Nick's avatar is an old Asian, played by James Hong. Roy's avatar, played by Marisa Miller, is a model who with her voluptuous curves attracts unwanted attention from men.
Nick tries to reconnect with his wife Julia, played Stephanie Szostak, who only sees him as an old Asian man she's never seen before.
Nick's former partner Hayes tries to recover all the gold now that Nick is dead.
The gold Hayes hunts for is for a relic called "the staff of Jericho." The staff is said to bring the dead back to the world of the living.
Nick and Roy, along with the rest of the "R.I.P.D" officers set out to stop that from happening.
Reynolds does an incredible job of combining his action sequences with that of his comical lines. He pulls in the attention of the audience with a very serious portrayal with clumsy comedy.
An incredible portrayal by Bacon as a bad guy as he makes his way through the film becoming more and more suspicious. He takes this role and makes it incredible. His performance takes in two roles, as a good guy trying to be there for his late friends wife and as a bad guy after the gold. The merge if the two come to be a grand role.
Stealing the shoe Bridges is incredible as the cowboy "R.I.P.D" officer who plays above the rules, does what he wants, shoots first and ask questions later. He combines comedy, action and drama in his role to captivate the audience.
The ending is well satisfying becoming serious and dramatic for a moment while implementing an amazing action sequence where Nick and Roy show off their skills.
I give this film 4 out of 5 Popcorns. Jeff Bridges is amazing in this film and Ryan Reynolds compliments him good. The action was good and fast paced bringing the comedy aspect of the film to be funnier. There is some sentimental aspects to the story which are found peeking through every so often. The comedy at points did not feel organic, it felt forced and although funny took away from the story. The 3D for this film was great and non-intrusive to the story of scenery.
"R.I.P.D" is out in theaters now.
