WARNING: Due to the mature content of the film, this review features disturbing images of rape and excessive language. Readers discretion is advised.
The concept of the arthouse cinema genre is to create art on screen, be it in a surreal nature or a straight forward piece. Art is also subjective as it can be declared a masterpiece to being deemed the lowest form of the genre it is trying to define. With that said, controversy never seems too far behind this notion and opinions will differ. Why do I write this introduction that sounds pretentious as hell? Because it is a nice way of explaining that Gaspar Noe's Irreversible is the most vile piece of cinema arthouse shit I have ever seen.

Irreversible deals with a man seeking vengence on the man who raped his pregnant girlfriend, yet it is told in reverse as we slowly figure out what lead to the end of the feature.
And to be honest with you, I could not finish this film. Noe's direction is disorienting and jarring testing the patience of one's mind. It is fucking annoying and done just to attempt to be shocking and different. It is also apparent that the creator is just one big homophobe with he utterance of 'faggot' every instance it has a gay bashing others.
For example, the scene at the Rectum night club show homosexual men as sex fiend that only want a good fuck or lay. And to add the cherry on top of the shit sundae that is this film, the rapist is also a bisexual man who rapes just becauss, well, he fuckin' can. He gets beaten to death while others are masturbating to the gore and others are shouting 'fag' left and right. It is just a vile mistreatment to the gay community.

Now to talk about the rape scene. I turned it off after it was over. The potrayal of rape in the film is grusome, heartbreaking and shocking. I was filled with anger and rage as it never turned away showing the gorgeous Monica Bellucci get beaten, anally raped and told her ear how much of a 'hot cunt' she is. Sitting at home, seeing this scene nearly caused me to vomit out of the grotesque nature. It is done to shock and nothing more. The whole film revolves around the shock of this moment and nothing more.
I hated this film. I hated Gaspar Noe after trying to see Enter the Void and this pretentious bullshit. I hate that I even bother to invest time into picking this film for this series. It is one of the worst features I have ever watched and is now the worst film I have reviewed for this series. If I could I end the series here, but no, one misstep is fine.
Next week, we get even more into controversy with the epic exploitation classic produced by Penthouse Films and Bob Guccione, 1979's Caligula starring Malcolm McDowell. Prepare for orgies, incest, beheadings, girl on girl, and Peter O' Toole drunk off his ass.
