"Me + You" kickstarter project caught my eye because it addresses stereotypes and brings forth a film that doesn't fall into those stereotypes.
The story is about an American girl who travels to Brazil and falls in love with a drug-dealer.
Writer and lead actress in this film Lyin Lander strongly points out the way the roles she's offered fit into a stereotype of the Asian culture.
"The fact that I am an Asian-American actress playing a lead role where I don't do martial arts makes it very different because I struggle to think of many others that fit the bill. Also, since I will be shooting it in Brazil and it will be bi-lingual (English and Portuguese), also makes it very much more diverse and easier to market and sell," Lander said.
The story has been in development since about a year ago and it's a project Lander has been passionate about.
It does not deal with stereotypes but rather has a romantic story.
"I don't know that it was really much of a choice on my part, but really an inability to NOT make the project. Just a gut feeling that making this project is what I have to do in my life, now," Lander said.
I was taken by the project from the video at the top I their kickstarter page. It captured my attention and made me want to know more.
The time is running out to fund this project but I wish I had coke across this project sooner because it's a worth while project.
Lander said, "with 33 hours to go in the campaign, we're charging full-steam ahead!"
