The colossal story of an apocalyptic battle between robots and aliens in "Pacific Rim" brings together two heroes to save the world.
The film rises to meet expectations but falls short of being a breathe-taking film.
Raleigh Becket, played by Charlie Hunnam, suffers a traumatic event which sidelines him from being one of the worlds protectors.
The massive robots which protect the world from giant monstrous aliens take two people to operate and the two need to be insync.
With his skills still top-of-line, Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba, seeks Raleigh out for what seems to be the ill-fated end to the giant robotic protectors.
To help figure out the mysteries of the aliens Dr. Newton Geiszler, played by Charlie Day, learns syncs minds with the aliens learning their secrets. With the help of Hannibal Chau, played by Ron Perlman, more is revealed.
Raleigh being specially selected excels at all his tasks and catches the eye of top recruit Mako Mori, played by Rinko Kikuchi. The two rival each other but quickly realize that they are better partners than rivals.
The two struggle to connect and stumble through their early mission.
Perlman takes his role and makes it annoying yet charming. His performance is brilliant although a small part.
Hunnam captures the audience's attention with a stern tone of voice and his eye-catching physique. His acting fits the character well and increases the connection the audience has with the story.
Kikichi is stunning and fierce. From the moment she appears on screen she is a force to be recommend with. She is a magnificent counterpart to Hunnam.
The big finale is just built up well. The ending comes as well received and climactic.
I give this film 4 out of 5 Popcorns. The characters are not perfect but do have a relatable feel to them. The story is just the right length with a good buildup to a well rounded story. It's a busy story so the two hours and eleven minutes are used well.
"Pacific Rim" on Blu-Ray and DVD now.
