LA Kings buyout defenseman Dion Phaneuf

The LA Kings have bought out the contract of defenseman Dion Phaneuf, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced on June 15.

Phaneuf, acquired by the Kings during the 2017-18 season, appeared in 93 games with the Kings over the past two seasons, posting 16 points (4-12=16) and 68 penalty minutes. He appeared in his 1,000th NHL game this past season.

Originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the first-round (9th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Phaneuf has appeared in 1,048 career NHL games over his 14-year NHL career with the Kings, Flames, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs, posting 494 points (137-357=494) and 1,345 penalty minutes.
