Oran Zegman’s student Academy Awards finalist MARRIAGE MATERIAL in Consideration for awards season



Oran Zegman’s retro musical shares a story about society’s unrealistic demands on women and was recently acquired by Fox Searchlight.

This wonderfully dark live action short film has garnered numerous high profile accolades including Best Musical Film at Rhode Island, Best Musical Film at Manhattan Film Festival and a Student Academy Award finalist.

After her boyfriend rejects her marriage proposal, Leah checks herself into the ‘Late Blooming Bride’ retreat; which re-packages women into “Marriage Material” at all costs in order to perfect them for their ideal partners.

Writer/Director Oran Zegman graduated from Beit-Zvi, School for the Performing Arts in Israel and went on to act in numerous shows.

Zegman then graduated from the American Film Institute Conservatory with an M.F.A. in Directing.

Her thesis film “Marriage Material,” was the first Musical film to ever be made at AFI.

The strong response to “Marriage Material” has landed the short as a musical series now in development at Quibi with Zegman co-writing and directing and The Chernin Company and Endeavor Content producing.

Producer Maor Azran produced or executive produced leading television programs including “The Beauty and the Baker,” “The Voice” and the award-winning “The Amazing Race.”

In 2018, he graduated from the Producing Program of The American Film Institute Conservatory.

As of 2019, along with his producing partners Jessi Shuttleworth and Sarah Timberman (Master of Sex) and he has a blind script deal with ABC Signature.

This wonderful film is now under awards consideration and can was seen at AFI FEST on Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. and will air on Fox Searchlight Shorts in January.
