You never really switch off of work these days
It's common for work to follow people home in this modern era of working. You can quite literally bring work home with you on laptops and other devices. But there's also a lingering sense of the workplace in your mind if you don't switch off. You replay conversations in your head while making dinner. You check emails before bed "just in case." Even when you're supposed to be relaxing, part of your brain is still on duty.

You try to de-stress and unwind, but it feels a little forced. A TV show doesn't distract you. A walk doesn't fully calm you. Because the pressure isn't just about tasks. It's about the atmosphere you're stepping back into tomorrow. When your nervous system never gets a real break, your body stays on high alert, and that tension starts to negatively affect you.

You're constantly under pressure
Everyone has busy periods. Deadlines happen after all. But work-related stress that never seems to ease is different. Maybe expectations keep rising while support stays the same. Maybe you're juggling roles that should belong to three people. Maybe communication is chaotic and you're always cleaning up misunderstandings.

At first, you tell yourself it's temporary. But months pass. The stress becomes your baseline. You don't remember what a calm week feels like. It's in the distant past now. This is your life from here on out. And that's when it stops being about workload and starts being about environment.

You're relying on coping mechanisms just to get through
When stress lingers, you look for relief. Extra caffeine. Late-night scrolling. Maybe even CBD THC gummies to reduce stress because you need something to take the edge off. There's nothing wrong with finding ways to relax. In fact, they can be enough for some people to deal with the stress of work. High-stress environments do exist.

But if you need them daily just to survive your job, that's worth noticing. Coping tools should support your wellbeing, not compensate for a system that's wearing you down. If relief feels temporary and the tension snaps back the next morning, the root cause hasn't changed.

You feel unheard or undervalued
Stress isn't always about volume. Sometimes it's about respect, or the lack of it. If your ideas are brushed aside. If feedback only comes when something goes wrong. If boundaries aren't honoured. That kind of tension builds quietly but deeply.

You might start shrinking your voice. Doing the bare minimum to avoid conflict. Counting down the hours. That slow drain on motivation isn't laziness. It's a response to feeling unseen. And over time, that feeling can weigh heavier than any deadline.
