Actress Yvonne Craig, the beloved actress who played Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the 1960s "Batman" series, died on Aug. 17 after a battle with breast cancer.

A  memoir entitled "From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond" was released in 2000.

Craig died at 78 years old.
She was born in Taylorville, Illinois and was an American ballet dancer and actress.

She was a classical trained ballet dancer and a member of the corps de ballet of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.

Craig would move on to acting where she played roles along side Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, Cesar Romero and Neil Hamilton.

She is most well known for her role as Batgirl in the third and final season of ABC's "Batman" series. Craig was such a fan favorite she almost got her own show after "Batman" was cancelled.
