First time burlesque producer Olivia Bellafontaine combines a gritty grindhouse look with burlesque performances for "Pussy Bang Bang," a night of movies and burlesque on Aug. 14 at the Dragonfly Bar.
With cult-classic films to get inspiration, several performs take on fan-favorite characters while images to compliment the films are projected on a screen on stage.
Bellafontaine hand chose the performers who she said she knew would be passionate about incorporating grindhouse elements into their performances.
The production came to be as Bellafontaine had never seen a burlesque show inspired by grindhouse. She talked about the idea with co-producer Courtney Cruz, producer of "Devil's Playground."
Cruz said she provided support and pushed Bellafontaine to develop the show. Together they figured how to use the Dragonfly Bar to make Bellafontaine's vision a reality.
The show had many genres it needed to fill and performers had the opportunity to choose what they most wanted to do.
Bellafontaine will be the only modern grindhouse performer dancing as Cherry Darling from Robert Rodriguez' "Planet Terror."
Performers will be portraying a variety a characters. Kristina Nekyia will be performing as a character from "Santanico Pandemonium," Diamondback Annie as a character from "Evil Dead 2," Dolly Danger from "The Big Doll House," Biloxi Brown from "Coffy," Erika Snap from "Ilsa She Wolf of the SS," Amber Marie from "Faster Pussycat Kill Kill" with special guest Russ Meyer film star and cult icon Kitten Natividad.
Cruz contacted Natividad for the show because when she heard of the grindhouse idea Cruz knew Natividad would be great to represent Russ Meyer films.
Natividad was excited to get back on the stage and to work with Cruz again. She is ready to go on stage and please the audience, who she hopes will enjoy her performance.
There will also be a special performance from band Psychocharger.
