Thisfunktional's Featured Artist: TESTIFY TO HIP HOP LIVE's Fallyn Walker a.k.a. Shorty So Soulful

Written by Jesus Figueroa

The rap battle came later than expected at "Testify to Hip Hop Live" on March 30 at the Globe Theater, but Fallyn Walker a.k.a. Shorty So Soulful showcased some skill battling up against the night's rap battle winner who came from the audience.

Her more melodic style, as opposed to the harsher fast-talking grunt style of other performers stood out because of the unique flow of her word.

"I didn't really prepare much because I like to keep it one hundred," Shorty So Soulful said. "I was hoping to go second to have something to go off of."

The battle was tough at Testify to Hip Hop Live as no one knew what to expect from a heckler from the audience in a wheel chair that joined the battle in the later rounds and came to beat the two final contestants.

"Talking shit comes easy to me if I feel adamite about something," Shorty So Soulful said. "If the only thing the first rapper could battle was based on ignorance of me than the rest would be cake, but because I went first I tried to keep my flow on a higher road. Making generalizations coupled with compassion."

Shorty So Soulful still took the challenge of battling someone unknown from the audience and brought some smooth lines.

Shorty So Soulful owned the stage as she rapped, but didn't exaggerate with too much movement throughout the stage or a grand theatrical performance. She let the lyrics propel the performance and commanded while she was on the mic.

"The other dude wouldn't make eye contact, so I was able to fuel my attention to the audience and felt pretty fortunate for that," Shorty So Soulful said. "But in hindsight it would've been fun to sit straight across from him, or maybe cross-legged next to his wheelchair so he'd forced or look down at me."

Shorty So Soulful originally from Saint Joseph, Missouri now in Long Beach, California has taken to the mic melodically combining lyrics to beats.

"When Glitches Attack," a sneak peek of her upcoming underground release is now here (https://youtu.be/s-biMHmo5jI).

The word warrior Shorty So Soulful is also a creative creature in the art of ink with skills as a tattoo artist with fabulous artwork which can be seen on her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Mic.Check.org/) and more on http://instagram.com/shortysosoulful.
